Yummy for yo’ tummy

I keep finding so many great noms at at my home away from home Trader Joe’s! Mango bars, dark chocolate stars, those popped potato chips, that red pepper spread, and now TJ’s Vanilla Flavored Coconut Milk-

YUM!

Mascara Madness! Let’s Do a Haiku Review: Rimmel Scandal Eyes

Your comments about food and beauty issues here the other day, and this article on breakouts, milk and sugar, prompted me to try (“try” being the key word here) to eat less dairy for a while.

We’ll see how it goes… I sure do love ice cream, but I think I can live without it for a few weeks.

Or days.

I was really surprised to like the taste of this coconut milk as much as I do. I don’t know, I just I expected it to have a consistency more like soy milk, rice milk or almond milk, but it’s a little thicker than those and doesn’t have much of an aftertaste.

So yum! Give it a try with some Trader Joe’s Honey Graham Crackers.

WARNING: The crackers are almost as addictive as those popped potato chips…

LOL! Maybe I should change the domain name of this blog to makeupbeautyandfoodblog.com. Mascara Madness! Let’s Do a Haiku Review: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Or makeupbeautycatstravelandfoodblog.com, haha!

Describe a Time You Saw Yourself Wearing Makeup and Thought, “What Was I Thinking-”

Describe a Time You Saw Yourself Wearing Makeup and Thought, "What Was I Thinking-”

This tends to happen whenever I come across pics of myself from the ’90s. Back when the pictures were taken, I probably thought I was blazing beauty trails and setting trends, but yeah, that was usually not the case, LOL!

Most of my cringe-worthy moments revolve around lipstick, and I have a ton of terrible pics from my sophomore year in college. I was going through a phase where I loved the look of really dark red lips — so dark they were almost black — and whenever I’d go out at night, I’d line my lips with black eyeliner (!), and then fill them in with the darkest red I could find.

Oh, but it got worse…

After my dark red phase, I was all about dark purple lip liner, on top of which I’d apply a frosty, peachy beige lipstick, and then a dot of clear gloss smack dab in the center of my lower lip.

Yeegh!

On top of everything else, I also had really bad hair back then. One day I decided to chop my long hair down to what I called my “Dharma ‘do,” inspired by Jenna Elfman’s then short, flippy hair.

Buuuuut, it didn’t quite turn out the way I’d hoped. The layering, the waves, the shortness of it all- — disaster.

I remember catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror one morning and practically jumping out of my skin! Who the heck is that!- My hair was sticking out in all sorts of crazy directions, like a little brown Ronald McDonald.

Yep, those were rough years…

P.S. Friday is so close I can almost taste it! Describe a Time You Saw Yourself Wearing Makeup and Thought, "What Was I Thinking-”

I hope you a had a great, great day today. This is my favorite time of year. Sunny with a cool breeze. Perfect for eating outside, which I did again tonight. When El Hub got home from work, we ducked out for Mexican food (had the fish tacos again, yum!), and now I’m settling down to watch a little TV.

How does your Friday look- More importantly, what are you up to this weekend-

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

Many run-of-the-mill pinkish beige lipsticks appear to loathe my lips. They feel heavy, look thick, apply unevenly in patches, and leave my pucker looking creepy and very, very unnatural (concealer lips, ugh!).

For the record, Chanel’s pinkish beige Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Empreinte is not one of those lipsticks.

Instead, it’s one of those rare, magical pieces of makeup made from kitten kisses and fairy dust.

Okay, not really. The truth is, winged drag-queen fairy godmothers wearing Jimmy Choos and bedecked in dazzling sequined tutus made each one by hand, pouring the magic formula into each sleek Chanel tube. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

This limited edition $32.50 lip Lothario also has a dainty rose garden flavor and scent and tiny flecks of golden glitter that sparkle from time to time in the light. It glides effortlessly across my lips like a Pegasus soaring silently above the clouds.

It’s so slick and moisturizing that I was able to apply it without taking my eyes off of my iPhone while playing Bejeweled 2 this afternoon.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

So what if it bails after two fish tacos- At least it sticks around for the horchata. We can’t all be annoyingly perfect, like that bubbly varsity cheerleader who sat right behind you in honors chem with her perfect hair and straight A’s…

No, I’m not bitter.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

A slight hint of warm peach makes this lipstick a loveable companion for summery eye looks featuring warm bronze, gold and brown. And remember — every time you apply Empriente, a husky tabby bakes biscuits on his assistant’s tum.

Really. He totally does.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Empreinte

  • A lightweight, hydrating pinkish beige with golden glitter and warm, peachy undertones
  • An easy-to-apply everyday color (no mirror or lip liner necessary)
  • Looks fierce with dramatic smokey eyes
  • Love its versatility, but it loses a few points for price ($32.50), and for having such a limited wear time (about 3 hours)

PRICE: $32.50

Please excuse me while I…

…go to Trader Joe’s for the second time in less than 24 hours. If I’m not back by 10, please send help! I’ll probably be trapped in the snack aisle amongst the Salted Popped Potato Chips.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte: A Magical Medley of Pinkish Beige

The reason this bag looks so tragic is because I finished it in one sitting, and every time El Hub tried to snatch it out of my hands, I clutched it tighter and yanked it away.

I’m starting to think TJ slipped something addictive into these.

So salty… So light…

Bomb dot com. All I have to say.

NARS Packed Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ With Pigment to Spare

NARS Packed Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ With Pigment to Spare

I have a thing for tinted moisturizes, in particular ones that let me easily dial up or down my level of coverage.

Because really, who wants a totally inflexible tinted moisturizer- That would be like having to eat the same bland gruel for breakfast every single day, bluh. I guess that’s why I like NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ ($42).

All nine oil-free shades in the line, which launched a few months back, contain copious amounts of pigment, and that spells flexibility. NARS Packed Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ With Pigment to Spare

Mixing equal parts of St. Moritz (a medium with neutral yellow undertones) and Cuba (a medium with a balance of neutral pink and yellow undertones) has been working pretty well for me since I got back from Kauai with a bit of a tan, but I think St. Moritz by itself is a pretty close match for my natural skin tone.

Swatches of St. Moritz (blended and unblended) on the left and Cuba on the right

Tired of heavy tinted moisturizers that feel like cotton comforters on your face- On days when I just want a little help evening out my skin, a dime-sized dollop is enough for my cheeks, nose, chin and the area around my mouth. It evens things out without clogging my pores and imparts a subtle luminosity, like I just stepped out of the shower.

And on days when I need more coverage than that, I just add a second layer, blending it in, and then patting a little extra product on my trouble spots.

Either way, one layer or two, with NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, I never feel like I’m wearing a heavy makeup mask.

NARS says the botanicals and mineral-rich seawater in the formula are able to reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and dark spots in about four weeks. My freckles aren’t totally convinced, but to be fair, I switch up my makeup routine often. To have an effect, maybe it needs more time and consistency than that.

If you’re skin’s been super dry lately, you might want to take this on a test flight first. Pure Radiant tends to cling to any flakes on my cheeks when they’re dry, so I probably won’t be using it in winter. I think it’s better for my oilier spring and summer skin.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++

  • Available in nine shades
  • Oil-free, fragrance-free and non-comedogenic
  • Made without parabens and sulfates
  • Finish isn’t completely matte; it has a subtle dewiness that gives it lots of life
  • Doesn’t feel like it slips off halfway through the day, and continues to look even better as the day wears on
  • Great for oily skin and/or humid climates; might be kinda dicey if your skin is very dry/flaky

PRICE: $42

Daily Style: White + Warren Cashmere Cardigan Stitch Hat

Daily Style: White + Warren Cashmere Cardigan Stitch Hat

Last week on a trip to Omaha, Nebraska for a UFC event, I left my most favorite White + Warren cashmere scarf in the arena where I watched Jake Ellenberger beat Diego Sanchez live at UFC on Fuel. (I know, I know, UFC means nothing to you!)

Since I can’t go on with life before replacing my scarf, I have been perusing whiteandwarren.com in search of a new scarf in an updated color (I’m thinking royal blue, magenta or maybe even citron!). Meanwhile, I came across this super adorable cashmere cardigan stitch hat. Not only is it sweet and cozy, but it’s ON SALE for $29 (marked down from $95) and is available in oat heather (shown), orchid purple, pine green and pomegranate red. Get on it quick before they sell out!

You’re welcome.

Daily Beauty: MAC Kid Orange Nail Lacquer

I am obsessed with this new nail polish from the Cook MAC Collection. This shade is called Kid Orange, a vibrant orange-red that is super glossy and perfect for spring.

This reminds me of my favorite part of the morning, just before the sun comes up here in Kauai, with all the possibilities and excitement of a brand new day.
